Requesting that Muslims be given the same legal safeguards as Jews against offense, Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, the Turkish secretary-general of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), reiterated yesterday his call to European countries to pass laws banning �the defamation of religions and prophets.�"
