In the last high-level review prior to start of accession talks in October, top EU officials tell Turkey to speed up reform efforts and sign Cyprus protocol

Having reviewed Turkish preparations for the upcoming accession talks, the European Union pressed Turkey yesterday for an early signing of a protocol extending Turkey's customs union deal with the bloc to new members, including Greek Cyprus that Ankara does not recognize, and highlighted a number of areas where it said more political reform was necessary. "
