Smoking killed approximately 37 times more people than car accidents in 2005

Smoking-related ailments caused some 112,000 deaths in 2005 in Turkey, a figure far ahead of the number of people who died in car accidents.
Smoking, a popular habit in Turkey, is blamed for a number of diseases, including several types of cancer, which in turn kill millions of people every year across the world. Alarmed by the high rate of deaths from smoking-related reasons, Turkish lawmakers are working on a bill to extend a smoking ban, an effort that has hardly been welcomed by Turkey's millions of smokers."
