"Borrell: Turkey EU talks decision should have been consulted with public
The decision on opening European Union accession negotiations with Turkey without asking the public's opinion was a mistake, according to European Parliament President Josep Borrell.
“The EU governments should have asked the people's opinion regarding the latest enlargement and especially the opening of accession negotiations with Turkey,” Borrell said at the closing session of a panel held over the weekend in Salzburg, Austria, which currently holds the EU term presidency.
