"An Overwhelmingly Muslim Country Can Reach European Standards, Gul
ISTANBUL - ''Considering our experiences, we can say that an overwhelmingly Muslim country can reach democratic standards of Europe, and keep its own cultural characteristics at the same time,'' Turkish FM Abdullah Gul said late on Wednesday.
Turkish Industrialists' & Businessmen's Association (TUSIAD) presented ''TUSIAD Bosphorus Prize for European Understanding 2005'' to British Secretary of Foreign & Commonwealth Affairs Jack Straw in a ceremony held at Istanbul's Rahmi M. Koc Museum. ''Straw deserves this award for his extraordinary diplomatic efforts to help Turkey start its entry talks with the EU, in the EU summit held in Luxembourg on October 3rd, 2005'', said TUSIAD in an earlier statement."
