"Personal emotions, politics and sports don't mix!

It must have been over 10 years ago when I watched a European Juniors' Volleyball Final on television in some European city when the Turkish boys came first. As the team lined up on the podium to receive their medals, the VIP gentleman honoring the event took each medal hanging on a ribbon lying on a silver tray held by a lovely young girl and put them into each player's hand, one by one, with a sour, unhappy look on his face. I thought the general practice was to hang the ribbon around a winner's neck when he leaned over, but this gentleman refused to do it. He was obviously upset the Turkish team had won instead of his European favorite. I remember being very upset at this attitude and that the honorable gentleman had let his negative emotions get in the way of good sportsmanship. "
