"'Barroso didn't mean to exclude Turkey'
The European Commission president's remarks late Monday about the suspension of the Union's enlargement process after Bulgaria and Romania join were clarified immediately by his spokesperson, who assured Ankara that Barroso didn't intend the exclusion of Turkey.
Right after the short-lived alarm bells went off in Turkey over remarks by Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, where he said that no more countries should join the bloc after Romania and Bulgaria, until the European Union has decided what to do with its stalled constitution, his spokesperson reassured Ankara, saying, 'Turkey's EU membership is not expected before 2015. That's why Barroso did not mean to exclude Turkey with his words.'"
