"Britain backs Turkish EU bid, denies anti-Islam campaign

British Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett yesterday reiterated support for Turkey's bid to join the European Union, denying charges that Britain is backing a United States war on Islam.
In a speech to the Labor Party annual conference, Beckett said EU expansion is �making a reality of the hopes for peace that inspired its founders,� adding that Turkish entry would help bring different faiths and cultures together. "
