The European Union said over the weekend that Ankara's refusal to open its ports and harbors to the Greek Cypriots is jeopardizing the country's negotiations to join the Union.
Speaking after a two-day EU foreign ministers meeting, Finnish Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja, whose country holds the rotating term presidency of the Union, said that signing the Ankara protocol extending the the Customs Union to the 10 new members of the 25-nation bloc, including the Greek Cypriot administration, was 'a commitment that has to be respected. If this is not the case, it will create a serious situation.'"
