There was a conference on Konya entitled 'Understanding Globalization in the Turkish Periphery: The Case of Konya' held at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City at the end of March. The co-sponsors of the conference were the Greater Konya Municipality and the University of Utah. The organizers were Professor Hakan Yavuz from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City and Professor Yasin Aktay from Selcuk University in Konya. For two days Turkish and U.S. academics discussed the impact of globalization on Turkish cities, in particular Konya. "
