My grandfather's father Ali Teymur Fenni Efendi was from Erzurum in eastern Turkey. According to the memoirs of his son Ali Kemali Paşa, 'He had a very good Armenian friend, Agop Efendi, who always stood by his side and lent him money when he needed it.' This was at the beginning of the 19th century."
