"EU Official, Study Criticize Pace of Turkish Military Reform

Turkey’s effort to establish full civilian control over its military per Western norms has slowed in the last year, European Union experts say, though Turkish officials argue the country is making steady progress in that direction.
Ankara’s aim is to adopt European standards in all fields to prepare for eventual EU membership. But the general perception in EU circles “is that the pace of change of Turkey’s reform has slowed down in the last year,” Alessandro Missir di Lusignano, desk officer for Turkey at the European Commission, told a meeting of EU and Turkish officials here March 31, sponsored by the Center for European Policy Studies (CEPS)."
