At the instigation of Dr. Janos Sipos, a prominent Hungarian researcher in the field of folk music, the Hungarian Embassy organized a one-day symposium in Ankara on the little-known subject of 'Comparative Research on the Folk Music of the Turkic and Hungarian Peoples.' In July 2005 a book by Mr. Sipos was published by the embassy in Ankara on the 60th anniversary of the death of Bela Bartok (1891-1945) in collaboration with the Turkish Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA). Dr. Sipos, who works at the Institute of Musicology at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, has collected no less than 1,600 Turkish folk tunes in his various journeys around Anatolia following in Bartok's footsteps, as Bartok came to Turkey in 1936 to research Turkish folk music."
