Can we in Turkey say we have any feeling of steadily moving towards accession to the European Union? When confronted with the question as to whether EU integration is our primary national policy, can any one of us, without any hesitation, respond in the affirmative?
More than Turkey's accession, its motivation is looking more doubtful with every passing day. We Turks seem to be no longer focusing on our march towards the EU, nor is the issue high on the ever-changing political agenda, and neither are European leaders paying deserved attention to these facts."
