"Turks permitted to join Anzac marches
The Returned and Services League (RSL) will allow descendants of Turkish World War I soldiers to join Anzac Day marches.
But permission to take part will not be extended to descendants of veterans from other countries.
Turkish-Australians have been marching in the Melbourne parade since 1996, but the RSL has given them permission to join for the first time this year.
The RSL's Victorian president, Major General David McLachlan, says Australia has a unique relationship with Turkey in commemorating the battle at Gallipoli.
He says Turkey is the only country that has sought to join the Anzac march and he expects the public will welcome the decision.
'I think everyone understands how good the Turkish Government has been to allow us to continue our respect at Gallipoli, and I don't think that the wider community will have any difficultly with it,' he said."
