U.S. Congressman Robert Wexler sharply criticized both Washington and European countries on Monday for their policy on Cyprus, charging they continue to institute an unfair policy based on believing a historical falsehood.

'When I visited Cyprus for the first time, I was floored by what I saw and experienced in terms of the demonization of Turkey, when the facts on the ground suggest something very different,' Wexler said during a luncheon in his honor hosted by the German Marshall Fund office in Ankara.

Stressing that the U.S. is supporting the Annan plan and any results that may come of it, the Democratic U.S. congressman said, 'We support a negotiated resolution. We do not support a two-nation Cyprus. We don't think that is in anyone's interest.'"
