Hans Blix was in Istanbul

"Hans Blix was in Istanbul

Dr. Hans Blix, chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) between 1981 and 1997, and chairman of the Sweden-backed independent International Commission on Weapons of Mass Destruction, was in Istanbul last week as a guest of Koc University, and gave two lectures on April 12. What made Dr. Blix a world wide celebrity was his job as the head of the United Nations Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission for Iraq (UNMOVIC) between 2000 and 2003. In that capacity he had declared that his inspections found no trace of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, and thus angered the Bush administration. An interesting development in this context is the following: President George W. Bush had announced on May 29, 2003, 50 days after the fall of Baghdad, that Saddam Hussein’s mobile “biological laboratories” were discovered, vindicating his decision to invade Iraq. It has, however, recently been revealed that, a secret US fact – finding mission to Iraq had already concluded that the trailers had nothing to do with biological weapons, and reported its findings to Mr. Bush on May 27, 2003, two days before his announcement. The report was stamped “secret” and shelved by the Bush administration. It is thus confirmed once more that Bush was lying, and Blix was telling the truth."
