"EU ACCESSION OVERVIEW
Frustration. This is the word that describes also how Turkish people- both officials and laymen- are feeling about the EU accession process. Here are reactions collected in the streets of capital Ankara and Izmir, the third largest city in Turkey:
“Which EU? This is an elisitist group, considering itself being wise, and looking down on us. Look only, there are 12 stars in the EU flag, do other members count?”
“Why do we need EU ? We are young, we can create wealth for ourselves”
“We are good as we are. I just don’care about EU“ - “EU pushed prices up and the level of life down. “
“Turkey was asked to jump this high, then that high, then even higher. Good Turkey, well done! Now what about climbing up here? put it plastically the Turkish expatriate that helped me to find my way in the airport. We did everything it was requested form us, but we will never enter into EU”
“ We started the accession process before former communist countries, and look, many are now in Eu and we are not. Were they more ready than we are? “"
