It’s an irony that won’t be lost on the Turks. In a week where France and Germany are reputedly seeking greater sanctions against Turkey’s intransigence over opening its ports and airports to trade with southern Cyprus, over and above the European Commission’s recommendation that eight of the thirty five accession chapters be suspended, the visit of Pope Benedict XVI to Turkey is being hailed a victory for the dialogue between civilizations. "
