"The Limits of Europe
Aki Paasovaara, a Finnish-born, Danish-based political leader of Europe United (a pan-European federalist political party established in 2005) says in Finnish newspaper Kaleva (28.10.2006) what the majority of Europeans think: Europe should recognize it has cultural and geographical limits; the EU cannot enlarge forever. According to Paasovaara, Turkey is not part of Europe, and shouldn't be taken into EU. Furthermore, Paasovaara points out, that while the political elite in Turkey drives the accession into EU, Turkish people don't see themselves as Europeans. Although I haven't paid much attention to this new party before, I can wholeheartedly agree at least with this statement. I only wish more influential European politicians would have sense to issue similar statements."
