After Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan implicitly criticized US for its Iraq policy at the Davos World Economic Forum meetings, the American Senator Christopher Dodd supported Turkey on this issue.
Participating in Davos, Connecticut Senator Dodd said that Turkey's not letting US soldiers deploy in Turkey was a wise decision. One of the veteran members of the US Senate the Democrat Senator speaking with Zaman in Davos, said despite voting for the war in Iraq in the Senate, he thinks that Turkey made a wise decision when you consider the present condition in Iraq. The American Senator said Turkey tries to be a member of the European Union (EU) and that the EU was also deeply divided on the issue during that period and therefore, influencing Turkey's decision. He said he understands that the Iraq problem is very important for Turkey and added that Ankara's decision proved to be correct as time went on, Dodd said."
