Pro-government media as well as other media outlets that are even more conservative-Islamist than the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) have been attacking President Ahmet Necdet Sezer. There have also been some appalling comparisons in these publications between the secularist president of the secular and democratic Turkish Republic and the fundamentalist leader of neighboring Iran, whose qualifications are obvious to everyone."
