"Not much to celebrate on April 24
YESTERDAY the Turkish Cypriots marked the second anniversary of the Annan plan referendum with celebrations, under the title of ‘Yes Day’. It is difficult to understand what the point of the celebrations was, considering that the plan was emphatically rejected by the Greek Cypriots and the re-unification which the Turkish Cypriots had voted for was never achieved.
We can only deduce that they were celebrating a diplomatic victory that enabled the Turkish side to win the sympathy of the international community which, since the referendum, has come to view the Cyprus government as the obstacle to a settlement."
