"Rice signals stronger anti-PKK effort
The New Anatolian / Ankara
Beginning her daylong stop in Ankara yesterday, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice signalled a stronger commitment to eliminate the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) presence in northern Iraq, but opposed any unilateral move by Turkey for a cross-border operation.
Referring to dormant trilateral mechanism established last year between the U.S., Turkey and Iraq against the PKK, Rice said, 'We need to reinvigorate those trilateral mechanisms to deal with the PKK problem. We want to do it in a way that does not cause greater instability in the north (of Iraq).'"
