Public opinion in Turkey is in a celebratory mood - the Turkish army appears to be rapidly liquidating Kurdish PKK fighters in northern Iraq. But can the party mood continue?
The Turkish military's website is not renowned for its user-friendliness: the press statements do not distinguish themselves by giving detailed information or clear explanations. However, that has changed in recent days. The website has been regularly updated with new press communiqués. The reason is simple: at the end of last week, the Turkish army launched an invasion of northern Iraq to eliminate the PKK or Kurdistan Workers' Party. The 'people's army' believes the fighting is going well as it has managed to kill more than 150 PKK guerrillas so far."
