"TURKISH troops fired on a group of between 50 and 60 Kurdish rebels inside northern Iraqi territory today.
The action has caused “significant losses” according to a Turkish military source.
The operation came a day after Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said his cabinet had authorised the armed forces to launch an offensive against the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) rebels.
The PKK has been staging attacks on Turkey from across the border. "
