In March of 2008 Azerbaijan will initiate liquidation of energy debt to Turkey, which formed in the 1990s, when Turkey was supplying electric energy to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, as reported by vice president of Azerenerji Marlen Askerov who added that the second energy distribution line is currently being laid between the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and Turkey."
