More men than women are victims of customs-related crimes and there are more cases of murder in the west of Turkey than its east, contends a new police report that contrasts sharply with commonly held beliefs about customs and honor killings.
The report compiles findings on 1,091 customs-related crimes committed nationwide within the last six years. According to the statistics, 60 percent of victims of honor and customs killings are male. This makes 710 males out of 1,091 while the number of females is 480.
