"EU urged to stand by Turkey commitment

ANKARA: The European Union should keep its commitment to Turkey and launch accession negotiations in October as planned for eventual full membership of the bloc, German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder said in comments published in a Turkish newspaper yesterday.
“My government believes Turkey has fulfilled every pledge it made, including those on Cyprus. I am sure the European Union will also keep its pledge,” Schroeder told a gathering of Turkish businessmen in Berlin on Friday, the mass-circulation Sabah daily reported."
