A DESCENDANT of a Turkish soldier who fought at Gallipoli during World War I will finally be able to officially march with other Australian descendants in Anzac Day celebrations next week.
Delahey resident Ramazan Altintas – president of the RSL’s Turkish sub-branch – will join thousands of others taking to the streets during Anzac Day parades in Melbourne.
It will be the eighth year Mr Altintas will have taken part but this will be the first time Turkish descendants will be officially recognised.
“It’s no different to any other year, as we have marched since 1997 but it is a warm, nice feeling,” he told Star last week. "
