The leaders of the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities will meet for the first time since the failed referendum in April 2004 to reunite the island, Cyprus News Agency reported, although no talks are expected.

President Tassos Papadopoulos said on Sunday he was ready to meet with Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat during the Committee of Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP).

The CMP would be having its first meeting under the presidency of its newly appointed third member, Christophe Girod.

Papadopoulos told reports that he had told UN Secretary-General last January that he was “ready and willing to meet with Talat during the CMP's meeting to be held under the persidency of its third member, whose candidacy we had accepted from the very first moment.”"
