The Anatolia Times-Ankara State Theater's Play Criticizes EU Process

"Ankara State Theater's Play Criticizes EU Process
ANKARA - Turkish actors and actresses will perform an unusual play regarding Turkey`s EU process -- which has been going on since 1960s -- for the first time on the stage of an Ankara State Theater.

The play titled ``Avrupa Komedyasi`` (European Comedy) written by Ozcan Ozer is a comedy criticizing Turkey`s EU accession process. Members of a three-party coalition are the main characters of the play focusing on relations between Turkey and IMF, and reforms --fulfilled in the country for the sake of EU accession-- and the role of press are also questioned.

In a scene of the play Turkish Central Bank governor meets prime minister and deputies to convey demands of the IMF. The governor says, ``they (IMF executives) want to mortgage spirit and body of the country`` and in response PM replies, ``we shall pay our debt and redeem mortgage.``"
