The European Union criticizes the Ergenekon investigation in its most important annual document on Turkey. The report highlights the excessive duration of detention periods without indictment and the lack of safeguards for rights of defendants among the problematic aspects. ‘Corruption remains widespread in the country,' Brussels also warns."
