Turmoil was reported to have erupted in Turkey after its most senior court unanimously agreed yesterday to consider a case calling for the banning of the ruling Justice and Development (AK) party and for the prime minister to be barred from office. The Economist argues that the case “may be an act of desperation by an old guard whose power is waning as EU-inspired changes take hold,” and surmises, “Turkey’s future is looking decidedly more unsure.”"
