Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Cemil Cicek said that the monetary assistance given to northern Cyprus was US$80 million a year between 1974 and 1996, US$210 million a year between 1997 and 2002 and US$360 million a year since 2002. “At this time we are giving nearly US$400 million a year,” he said. On behalf of the government and in response to Huseyin Pazarci, a Turkish Member of Parliaments’ speech regarding northern Cyprus, Cemil Cicek said: “The Cyprus matter is a ‘national cause’ for everyone.”"
