There was a long line of TIR trucks at the checkpoints with Turkey heading to Bulgaria. The reason for the tension was the introduction of visa regime for the Turkish citizens after the accession of Bulgaria to the EU. The General Consular Section in Edrine had to work extra hours for issuing visas. Later the lines of waiting cars and trucks at Capitan Andreevo checkpoint diminished.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivaylo Kalfin expressed regret that we had to impose visa regime for the Balkan states and assured that Bulgaria will work for easing that regime. "
