"Mardin named candidate for World Heritage List

Mardin, regarded as the �city of languages and religions,� has been named a candidate for the World Heritage List by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Doğan news agency reported on Saturday. Mardin Governor Mehmet Kılıçlar announced that the municipality should scrutinize more carefully any new construction in the city."
