'I had no idea which direction our lives would go when I married Frank. As reporters, we were happy to be witnessing history while making out a living,' begins Sel Erder Yackley's book, "Never Regret the Pain: Loving and Losing a Bipolar Spouse."
The author, a highly revered figurehead in the Turkish-American community in Chicago and thus referred to as the 'Mama-Turk', was born in Istanbul, graduated from Ankara Koleji and met Frank Yackley while both were working as reporters for United Press International. Like most young women in the 1960s, Sel wanted a good marriage and children and was ready to support her husband's career goals whatever the cost to her professional aspirations."
