WHEN THE European Court of Human Rights ruled in early May that Turkey’s one time “most wanted” man had not received a fair trial, there was little surprise—if a lot of resentment—among many Turks. With the decision coming on the heels of a groundswell of nationalist feeling, the declaration also was expected to result in a substantial backlash, even as leading government figures appealed for calm."
