Stephen Larrabee who holds the corporate chair in European Security at the RAND Corporation, an influential think-tank in the U.S., published an article titled Turkey rediscovers the Middle East in this month's Foreign Affairs. Larrabee's article draws attention to an interesting point: He argues that in a departure from its traditional foreign policy, Turkey is now becoming an important player in the Middle East. Turkey's growing concern over Kurdish nationalism has brought Ankara closer to the governments of Iran and Syria, which also contend with restive Kurds at home. "
