For me it was surprising to read about the consequences of Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul's visit to Damascus. The Turkish delegation seemed extremely happy with and encouraged by the talks they had with Syrian officials President Bashar Assad, Vice-President Farouq al-Shara and Gul's counterpart Walid al-Muallim as well as the warm reception shown to them in the Syrian capital."
