BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Britain plans a low-profile route to starting controversial European Union accession talks with Turkey, keeping the issue below the political radar screen until the last minute, officials say.
Prime Minister Tony Blair made clear on the first day of London's EU presidency on Friday that launching the membership negotiations on October 3 was one of his top priorities and he would not let increasingly sceptical west European public opinion get in the way."
