"More In France Wary Of Turkey�s EU Bid
(Angus Reid Consultants - CPOD Global Scan) � Many adults in France are against Turkey�s goal of joining the European Union (EU), according to a poll by CSA published in Valeurs Actuelles. 57 per cent of respondents are opposed to the country�s entry into the continental alliance, a seven per cent increase since December.
In December, the EU agreed to begin accession talks with Turkey on Oct. 3, 2005. The country has been seeking inclusion for more than forty years, and filed a formal application to that effect in 1987. Since then, it has taken steps required only of members�including the establishment of a customs union�but was not accepted as a candidate state until 1999."
