Close Outcome Expected In Turkish Cyprus Ballot

"Close Outcome Expected In Turkish Cyprus Ballot

(Angus Reid Consultants - CPOD Global Scan) The election to the House of Representatives in the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will be tightly contested, according to a poll by KADEM published in the Cyprus Mail. 36 per cent of respondents would vote for the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) in this Sundays ballot.
Northern Cyprus seceded after the 1974 Turkish invasion, which took place after a Greece-backed coup staged to unite the island. Two efforts towards reunification sponsored by the United Nations (UN) failed in the past three years. In May 2004, the European Union (EU) recognized Greek Cyprus as a member of the continental alliance."
