Nicolas Sarkozy, new leader of the ruling French Union for a Popular Movement (UMP), has speculated that support for the European Constitution would be a facilitator that would decrease Turkey's chances of gaining full European Union membership.
Delivering a public speech earlier this week, Sarkozy, who is lining himself up to be President Jacques Chirac's successor, said Europe should have set borders and that Turkey's integration with the EU was not a good idea, the Anatolia news agency reported."
