It is a widely known fact President George W. Bush personally backed the government of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) in Turkey from the start.
In fact, Mr. Bush personally met with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan before he became prime minister, an extraordinary gesture on behalf of the U.S. president, and had shown his trust in him when Mr. Erdogan was prohibited from running in the elections. "
