"Turkey- Vodafone loses 3G race to Turkcell
The Peninsula - 29/11/2008
(MENAFN - The Peninsula) Turkcell, Turkey's leading mobile phone operator, yesterday outbid Vodafone of the UK to buy the largest chunk of radio spectrum available in an auction that is set to raise $1bn for the government.
The spectrum is suitable for providing third generation mobile services such as internet access and music downloads. It was the second time Turkey's telecoms board had invited offers for the 3G spectrum, after cancelling an auction in 2007 in which Turkcell was the only bidder."
