"Greek island hikes ferry fares to halt shopping in Turkey

Shop owners on the Greek island of Lesbos, which lies opposite the Turkish mainland, have successfully lobbied for a five-fold hike in ferry fares to prevent an exodus of customers to cheaper Turkish stores, local authorities said on Thursday.
Effective immediately, ferry fares from Lesbos to the Turkish coastal town of Ayvalik will increase from six to 29 euros, said George Orfanos, chairman of the local chamber of commerce. "
