Nicosia. The Cyprus Turks want to be represented in the EU, online edition of Greek newspaper Imerisia informs. They want to follow the example of Belgium which has two representations - Flemish and Walloon.
The position of the Turkish community is becoming clear in the talks process on the forming and functioning of the technical commissions; the technical commissions issue was agreed on July 8th at the meeting between Republic of Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos, the President of the recognized only by Ankara Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Mehmet Ali Talat and the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Ibrahim Gambari.
According to Talat’s advisor Rashid Pertev the Cyprus Turks are not a community, as they do not have a state. Pertev’s position follows the main guideline of the Annan Plan for Cyprus’ unification."
