ANKARA, Turkey — Kurdish demonstrators tossed firebombs and stones at banks and police Thursday, furious over a decision to bar some independent Kurdish candidates from a national ballot.
The High Election Board has barred 12 independent candidates from the June parliamentary election, many of them Kurds who have been convicted of illegal alliances with Kurdish rebels. The board is now considering appeals by the candidates and could issue its final decision Thursday."
